Despite having a straight-to-series order, Dead Day will no longer proceed on Peacock. The series is supposed to be an adaptation of Ryan Parrott’s AfterShock Comics series.
The streaming service ordered the series from Universal Television earlier this year. After the cancellation, they are now looking to shop elsewhere. They planned for the story to revolve around the characters as they navigate the annual “dead day,” when the dead come back to complete unfinished business for a night.
According to a source close to the production, a change in strategy led to its cancellation. Along with this series, the streamer also axed Vampire Acamedy this month.
In preparation for the next stage of its evolution, the streamer is changing its development approach to place more emphasis on drama, driven by eventized series, a concentration on binge-able comedies, and more true crime-focused docuseries and celebrity-driven unscripted programming.
