Despite the early renewal of Dangerous Liaisons for season two last November, Starz just announced the reversal of that decision. Today, the streaming service decided to pull the plug on the historical drama series. The final three episodes of season one will air on their planned dates, with the finale set to premiere on January 1.
According to live + same-day Nielsen data, the linear debut of Dangerous Liaisons had just 88,000 total viewers and a 0.03 rating among viewers 18 to 49. The show’s ratings didn’t rise in the following weeks, dipping to 0.02 and 52,000 viewers overall for the episode that aired around Thanksgiving. Even though the show’s ratings somewhat increased upon airing on December 4, it has yet to reach a six-figure L+SD audience. Despite the high expectations and support from the executives, sources claim the team opted to cancel it because audiences weren’t tuning in.

About Dangerous Liaisons TV Show
‘Dangerous Liaisons’ is a bold prelude of Laclos’ classic 18th century novel focusing on the origin story of how his iconic characters, the Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont, met as passionate young lovers in Paris on the eve of the revolution. This modern take on a classic story takes audiences through wonder and terror, beauty and degradation, seduction and deception in pre-revolutionary Paris. Driven to right the wrongs of their past, the young couple’s survival depends on their skills of seduction and manipulation of not only the French nobility but of each other. Alice Englert and Nicholas Denton portray the notorious lovers: Camille who is taken in by the current Marquise de Merteuil (played by Lesley Manville) navigates her own path in a world of men, using the power of secrets to take back control, and Valmont who will stop at nothing to regain his title that was recently taken from him. Their on-again off-again love story is the heart of the series. It’s not love… it’s war.Keep track of the cancel/renew status of all your favorite TV shows.
