Despite the early renewal of Dangerous Liaisons for season two last November, Starz just announced the reversal of that decision. Today, the streaming service decided to pull the plug on the historical drama series. The final three episodes of season one will air on their planned dates, with the finale set to premiere on January 1.
According to live + same-day Nielsen data, the linear debut of Dangerous Liaisons had just 88,000 total viewers and a 0.03 rating among viewers 18 to 49. The show’s ratings didn’t rise in the following weeks, dipping to 0.02 and 52,000 viewers overall for the episode that aired around Thanksgiving. Even though the show’s ratings somewhat increased upon airing on December 4, it has yet to reach a six-figure L+SD audience. Despite the high expectations and support from the executives, sources claim the team opted to cancel it because audiences weren’t tuning in.
Dangerous Liaisons chronicles Marquise de Merteuil and Vicomte de Valmont’s first encounter in Paris on the eve of the revolution. It stars Alice Elgert and Nicholas Denton. The cast includes Kosar Ali, Carice Van Houten, Hilton Pelser, Fisayo Akinade, Michael McElhatton, Nathanael Saleh, Colette Dalal Tchantcho, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, and Tom Wlaschiha.
