The CW has decided to cancel the prequel series Walker: Independence after just one season. This move was expected, as the network had recently renewed the main series, Walker.
As part of the CW’s transition to a new business model focused on lower-cost scripted programming for increased profitability, most of their existing scripted shows will be canceled this week.
While Walker is the network’s highest-rated series, Walker: Independence had average ratings compared to other shows.
Starring Matt Barr and Katherine McNamara, Walker: Independence is set in the late 1800s and revolves around Abby Walker (McNamara), an affluent Bostonian whose husband is tragically murdered during their journey out West. Fueled by a desire for revenge, Abby crosses paths with Hoyt Rawlins (Barr), a charming and purpose-seeking individual.
Together, they find themselves in Independence, Texas, where they encounter a diverse group of residents who are hiding from their past and pursuing their aspirations. Along the way, Abby and Hoyt become catalysts for change in the small town.
