Hulu is no longer moving forward with the limited series, The Devil in the White City. Initially set to star, Keanu Reeves departed in October. Todd Field, the director, left shortly after that. They attempted to look for replacements with offers that ultimately fell through.
The long-awaited limited series was supposed to tell the tale of Dr. H. H. Holmes, America’s first modern serial killer and the mastermind behind the notorious “Murder Castle,” which was built in the fair’s shadow, and Daniel H. Burnham, a demanding but visionary architect who rushes to make his mark on history with the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair.
The eight-episode series was scheduled to premiere in 2024, but filming wasn’t supposed to start until this year. The series was slated to be executive produced by Martin Scorsese, Rick Yorn, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson, Stacey Sher, Sam Shaw, Lila Byock, and Mark Lafferty for ABC Signature in association with Paramount Television Studios.
The Devil in the White City is still essential to ABC Signature, and according to reports, they are currently looking for a new home for the series.
