HBO Max announced their decision to end the comedy series South Side after its third season. The series premiered on Comedy Central on July 2019 before it moved to HBO Max for Season 2 in November 2021. Also, the third season came out on December 2022.
“While HBO Max will not be moving forward with a fourth season of South Side, we are so proud of the rich world Bashir Salahuddin, Diallo Riddle, and Sultan Salahuddin created. We thank them and Michael Blieden, Tony Hernandez, the supremely talented cast and crew, and our partners at MTV Entertainment Studios,” an HBO Max spokesperson said.
“For three seasons, this beloved series balanced cutting, hyperlocal social commentary about life on the South Side of Chicago with silly, sometimes zany humor. The result was a wholly unique, ambitious, and fearless comedy that could speak to everyone living the American dream,” the spokesperson added.
South Side follows two friends who recently graduated from community college and are ready to rule the world. However, until then they are stuck working at Rent-T-Own. The show, set in Chicago’s Englewood area, is an accurate depiction of South Side life.
It stars Sultan Salahuddin, Kareme Young, Lil Rel Howery, Langston Kerman, Nefetari Spencer, and Rashawn Nadine Scott. Also, it featured guest appearances from Kel Mitchell, Chance the Rapper, Vic Mensa, and Deon Cole.
Bashir Salahuddin, Diallo Riddle, and Sultan Salahuddin are co-creators for South Side. Michael Blieden, Diallo Riddle, and Bashir Salahuddin are the executive producers of the comedy from MTV Entertainment Studios. For Jax Media, Tony Hernandez executive produces. The producers for MTV Entertainment Studios are Tara Power, Kristyn Deignan, and Ari Pearce.
