It’s time to say goodbye to Shantaram after Apple TV+ pulls the plug on the series after one season. The drama thriller series is an adaptation of the bestselling novel by Gregory David Roberts of the same name. Reportedly, it hasn’t garnered as much attention as other popular Apple TV+ titles. The cancellation announcement came a day before season 1 released its final episode on December 16.
Shantaram follows Lin Ford, who breaks out of a maximum-security Australian jail. He poses as a doctor in the 1980s slums of Bombay and becomes involved with a local mafia lord. Eventually, he utilizes his gun smuggling and counterfeiting abilities to battle the Russian invasion forces in Afghanistan. It stars Charlie Hunnam, Shubham Saraf, Elektra Kilbey, Fayssal Bazzi, Luke Pasqualino, Alyy Khan, Sujaya Dasgupta, Vincent Perez, David Field, Alexander Siddig, Gabrielle Scharnitzky, Elham Ehsas, Rachel Kamath, Matthew Joseph and Shiv Palekar.
Showrunner Steve Lightfoot wrote and served as executive producer of the Shantaram television series. The director and executive producer is Bharat Nalluri. The executive producers include Andrea Barron, Nicole Clemens, Steve Golin, Justin Kurzel, and Eric Warren Singer, who also co-created it with Lightfoot. Paramount Television Studios and AC Studios of Anonymous Content produced the show for Apple.
