According to sources, S.W.A.T., which was canceled after six seasons, will be renewed for a seventh and final season on CBS, consisting of 13 episodes.
Negotiations between CBS and the lead studio Sony Pictures Television restarted immediately after the cancellation announcement due to the backlash from fans.
The resolution is expected to be reached by May 10, and CBS is set to unveil its fall schedule on that day. CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach and Sony Pictures Television Studios President Katherine Pope issued a joint statement saying they listened to their viewers and found a way to bring back S.W.A.T. for a final season, providing closure to the show’s storylines and characters.
S.W.A.T. has been enjoying a rating resurgence, contributing to CBS’ Friday drama lineup. While the cancellation reversal is good news for S.W.A.T. fans, it may not be good news for East New York, as it may compete for the same slot.
