The Netflix series Resident Evil has been cancelled. The live-action adaptation won’t return for season two.
The zombie drama was a reimagining of the popular franchise. It followed scientist Albert Wesker and his two daughters as they move to a new town developed by the sinister Umbrella Corporation. The Resident Evil cast is led by Lance Reddick and Ella Balinska, who play Albert Wesker and his tough-as-nails daughter, Jade.
Resident Evil premiered a little over a month ago, and it had a somewhat strong start. The show performed reasonably well in its first week, with 72.7 million hours viewed and gaining the #2 spot on the Netflix “most-watched” list. However, it failed to keep viewers interested enough to binge it or watch more episodes as it quickly dropped dow Netflix’s ranking amid competition from Stranger Things and The Sandman. .
The response from fans and general audiences was overwhelmingly negative: On Rotten Tomatoes, Resident Evil holds an audience score of only 22%, while on Metacritic fans were even crueler when showing how they felt about it – it has a 1.4 user rating.
