Max has opted not to proceed with a third season of Issa Rae’s comedy series “Rap Sh!t,” a decision made a month after the Season 2 finale aired. Originally set for an August 10 debut, the second season was delayed to November due to strikes by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. The cancellation aligns with a trend of streaming platforms, including Max, reducing their original content. Despite this, Max retains five returning comedy series, including “Hacks,” “And Just Like That…,” “The Sex Lives of College Girls,” “Peacemaker,” and the recently renewed “Bookie.” A Max spokesperson expressed gratitude to Issa Rae for creating “Rap Sh!t,” praising its unique comedy and social commentary. The statement thanked Issa Rae, showrunner Syreeta Singleton, and the teams at Hoorae and 3 Arts Entertainment for introducing viewers to characters Shawna and Mia. The spokesperson emphasized investment in the duo’s journey, highlighting memorable moments like “Seduce and Scheme.” “Rap Sh!t” depicted the story of estranged high school friends Shawna (Aida Osman) and Mia (KaMillion), reuniting to form a rap group in Miami. The series explored their path to fame, addressing challenges at a pivotal moment in their rap career, prompting decisions about authenticity versus conforming to the music industry’s demands.
