Peacock has decided to end Queer as Folk in its first season, meaning fans would not be getting a new season. The show, a reboot of the British drama series of the same name by Russell T. Davies, ran for eight episodes and received an 84 percent score from the critics and a 46 percent audience score.
After receiving the news, Stephen Dunn (the creator of the series), created a post on his Instagram to express how thankful he is to the cast and fans and his sentiments about the series’ cancellation. In his recent post, he states, “It’s a rare gift in these times, and in this country, to be able to make a show as fearless and unapologetic as ‘Queer As Folk’. This experience changed our lives forever and we’re so grateful to have found this incredible new family. But today we received the disappointing news that we’re not getting a second season. We know how much it’s meant to the fans and while we’re heartbroken we won’t get to make more episodes, we wanna thank everyone for watching and falling in love with Brodie, Mingus, Ruthie, Noah, Shar, Julian, Daddius, Bussey, Marvin, Judy, and Brenda. We’re so grateful for the chance to honor our community and are so proud of this show.”
The cast includes Queer as Folk stars Fin Argus, CG, Jesse James Keitel, Ryan O’Connell, Johnny Sibilly, Devin Way, Kim Cattrall, Eric Graise, Chris Renfro, Juliette Lewis, and Armand Fields. One of them, Jesse, also expressed her sadness over the news on her Twitter account.
Breaks my heart to say goodbye to Ruthie 💔 we’ve all seen (or played) queer characters that are infallible, but I’ve never played anyone quite like her. Grateful to everyone who connected with Ruthie — I saw me in her too 😭 Cheers, queers 🏳️⚧️🌈✨ #QueerAsFolk pic.twitter.com/NszbJnTvUB
