Pennyworth or Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler would not be having a fourth season on HBO Max. After two seasons aired on Epix, the streamer decided to keep up the show for a third season. The third season of the 10-episode DC origin series debuted on the streaming service in October and ran until the end of November.
The series follows Alfred Pennyworth, a former British SAS soldier, as he establishes a security firm in 1960s London and begins working for young billionaire Thomas Wayne, who later becomes Bruce Wayne’s father.
The events in the third season start after a five-year gap when the world changed after a cultural revolution and brought forth a new era of superheroes and supervillains. It stars Emma Paetz, Paloma Faith, Ryan Fletcher, Dorothy Atkinson, Ramon Tikaram, Harriet Slater, and Simon Manyonda.
“While HBO Max is not moving forward with another season of Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler, we are very thankful to creator Bruno Heller and executive producers Matthew Patnick, Danny Cannon, and John Stephens, along with Warner Bros. Television, for their brilliant, unique, gripping depiction of the origin of Alfred Pennyworth, one of the most iconic characters in the Batman world,” said an HBO Max spokesperson.
“An incredible blend of action, drama, and humor, for three seasons, Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler has taken fans on a mind-bending ride into Alfred’s eccentric world and the beginnings of cutting-edge super heroes and super villains,” added the individual.
Executive producers of the series include John Stephens, Bruno Heller, Matthew Patnick, and Danny Cannon. Serving as inspiration for the series are characters created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger.
