Amazon Prime Video confirms the cancellation of Paper Girls, a science fiction series produced by Amazon Studios and Legendary Television. Despite the positive reviews, the decision became final several weeks after eight episodes for Season 1 premiered on July 29 in more than 240 countries worldwide. The show received an impressive response from critics, earning 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, quickly followed by a score of 88% from the audience. Reports say, Legendary will be shopping the show around to other streamers and markets.
The first season stars Sofia Rosinksy, Camryn Jones, Riley Lai Nelet, and Fina Strazza, also joined in the cast by Ali Wong. It revolves around four young girls who become unwittingly caught in a conflict between warring factions of time-travelers while delivering papers on the morning after Halloween in 1988. This unexpected encounter sent them on an adventure through time that will save the world.
Paper Girls is from Amazon Studios and Legendary Television, in association with Plan B. It is based on Brian K. Vaughan’s graphic novel illustrated by Cliff Chiang and published by Image Comics. Its executive producers are Christopher C. Rogers, Stephany Folsom, Christopher Cantwell, Brian K. Vaughan, Cliff Chiang, Steven Prinz, and Plan B. The series was created for television by Folsom. Season One is directed by Mairzee Almas, Georgi Banks-Davies, Destiny Ekaragha, and Karen Gaviola.
