Amazon Studios Gives the Green Light to the Second Season of ‘Pan y Circo,’ A Series Created by Mexican Actor, Director and Producer Diego Luna
The Amazon Original series presents an innovative format rarely seen: the ritual of sharing food as a space to converse and gather different Latin American points of view.
MEXICO CITY, Jan 26, 2021 – Amazon Prime Video and La Corriente del Golfo, Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal’s production company, come together once again after their successful first collaboration: Pan y Circo, to return with a new season. The Amazon Original series presents an innovative and rarely seen format: the ritual of sharing a meal as a space to converse and gather diverse Latin-American viewpoints. The conversations, moderated by the actor and Mexican filmmaker Diego Luna, will once again gather important and different personalities to touch upon topics of fundamental and universal interest in contemporary societies.
The topics discussed in the first season included: gender violence and femicide; climate change; decriminalization of abortion; racism and identity; drug legalization; migration and finally, COVID-19 in a remote episode recorded during social distancing and with different virtual interviews.
Pan y Circo was created by Diego Luna and produced by La Corriente del Golfo. The series premiered exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on August 7th, 2020 and Prime Video clients in more than 200 countries and territories were able to enjoy new episodes each week.
Pan y Circo is an Amazon Original series, announced by Prime Video for Mexico, and joins a growing list of locally acclaimed and popular series like Cómo Sobrevivir Soltero, De Viaje con los Derbez, El Presidente, Diablo Guardian, LOL: Last One Laughing, Un Extraño Enemigo and El Juego de las Llaves, with other hit Amazon Original series worldwide including Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, The Boys, Fleabag, Good Omens, Carnival Row, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Pan y CircoThe Amazon Original Series, Pan y Circo, is comprised of seven episodes, and travels across Baja California, Puebla, Quintana Roo and Mexico City, revisiting the ritual of sharing a meal as a space for conversation and gathering of different points of view. The conversations, moderated by Mexican actor and filmmaker Diego Luna, gather politicians, activists, and different personalities to touch upon fundamental and general interest topics of contemporary societies, combined with menus from renowned Mexican chefs.
The topics of the show include gender violence; climate change; decriminalization of abortion; racism and identity; drug legalization; immigration and finally, COVID-19, a remote episode filmed during confinement and with different virtual interviews.
The series has 38 dinner guests and 6 chefs that feed the conversation, and the table, during each episode.
Pan y Circo was created by Diego Luna and produced by La Corriente del Golfo. Three episodes will premiere on Friday, August 7th, and each week, two additional episodes will be released. The series premieres exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in Mexico and in more than 200 countries and territories.
