NBC STARTS 2021 WITH A TINA FEY COMEDY, FAN FAVORITE GAMESHOWS AND THE RETURN OF EMMY AWARD WINNER “ZOEY’S EXTRAORDINARY PLAYLIST”

Ted Danson and Holly Hunter Starrer “Mr. Mayor” Arrives Jan. 7 While “Zoey’s” Moves Into Its New Tuesday Home on Jan. 5

NBC is starting the new year on a high note with the launch of the new Robert Carlock and Tina Fey-created and produced comedy “Mr. Mayor,” the time period premiere of new medical series “Nurses” and the highly anticipated season two return of critically acclaimed “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.”

In addition, just when we need it most, a new season of frivolity is in the air with the return of “Ellen’s Game of Games.” And when it comes to making its players happy, no show can turn anyone’s financial fortunes around faster than “The Wall,” back for more of its anxiety-inducing ball drops.

Starting Jan. 4, Mondays will be a night of fun and games with the season premieres of hit gameshows “Ellen’s Game of Games,” which reached more than 57 million viewers last season, and “The Wall,” which was undefeated in its timeslot last summer. A week later on Jan. 11, “Weakest Link” and host Jane Lynch join the party. “The Weakest Link” has been the most-watched series premiere on the Big 4 networks through the season’s opening eight weeks.

Tuesdays will mark the celebrated season two return of the much beloved “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist,” a critical darling that won an Emmy Award in its first season and stars Jane Levy as a whip-smart computer programmer who hears the innermost thoughts of people around her through songs. The series will kick off the night and lead into “This Is Us,” this season’s top scripted drama and #1 in 18-49 for the past five seasons. Tuesdays will conclude with “Nurses,” the network’s new Canadian medical drama acquisition on the heels of one of 2020’s biggest success stories, “Transplant.”

Wednesdays continue with Windy City favorites “Chicago Med,” Chicago Fire” and “Chicago P.D.,” all off to strong starts once again. “Med,” which defeated unscripted timeslot competitors last season in total viewers, remains as popular as ever, and “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago P.D.” are both coming off their most-watched seasons.

“Mr. Mayor,” starring Ted Danson and Holly Hunter, will premiere on Thursday, Jan. 7 with two episodes at 8 and 8:30 p.m. ET/PT before moving to its regular 8 p.m. timeslot on Jan. 14 with “Superstore” shifting to 8:30 p.m.

“Mr. Mayor” follows a retired businessman (Ted Danson) who runs for mayor of Los Angeles to prove he’s “still got it.” Once he wins, he has to figure out what he stands for, gain the respect of his biggest critic (Holly Hunter) and connect with his teenage daughter, all while trying to get anything right for America’s second weirdest city.

The series stars Ted Danson, Holly Hunter, Vella Lovell, Mike Cabellon, Kyla Kenedy and Bobby Moynihan.

“Mr. Mayor” is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, Little Stranger, Bevel Gears and 3 Arts Entertainment. Robert Carlock, Tina Fey, Jeff Richmond and David Miner will executive produce. Eric Gurian will serve as a co-executive producer.

NEW DRAMA SERIES

NURSES

“Nurses,” filmed and set in Toronto, follows five young nurses working on the frontlines of a busy downtown hospital, dedicating their lives to helping others, while struggling to help themselves.

The series stars Tiera Skovbye (“Riverdale”), Natasha Calis (“The Posession”), Jordan Johnson-Hinds (“Blindspot”), Sandy Sidhu (“Home Before Dark”) and Donald MacLean Jr. (“Workin’ Moms”).

Ilana Frank, Linda Pope, Vanessa Piazza, Adam Pettle, Jocelyn Hamilton and Tassie Cameron will executive produce. Julie Puckrin is co-executive producer.

“Nurses” is produced by ICF Films, eOne in association with Corus Entertainment, with the participation of the Canada Media Fund and the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit. eOne handles international distribution on the series.

The Roku Channel Inks Deal for Lionsgate's "Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist" Holiday TV Movie

All-New Feature-Length Film Based on Beloved and Critically Acclaimed Series to Delight Streamers this Holiday Season

The project, which will bring the original cast back for a holiday encore, is the first Roku Original feature-length film announced for The Roku Channel. Production for "Zoey's Extraordinary Christmas" will commence in Vancouver this month and will air exclusively for free on The Roku Channel in the U.S., as well as streaming on Roku in Canada and the U.K. In addition to the new feature-length film, all 25 episodes of the fan favorite critically acclaimed series will be available to stream for free on The Roku Channel in the U.S. starting later this fall.

The film picks up where season two left off, continuing Zoey's journey as she navigates work, family, love, and everything in between. Golden Globe(R) nominated Jane Levy, Skylar Astin, Alex Newell, John Clarence Stewart, Andrew Leeds, Alice Lee, Michael Thomas Grant, Kapil Talwalkar, David St. Louis, Mary Steenburgen, Peter Gallagher, and Bernadette Peters (nominated for an Emmy(R) for her performance in the series), will all reprise their roles, bringing the same love and passion to the full-length feature film that loyal fans have come to know from the television show.
