NBC has decided not to order additional episodes beyond the 20-episode fifth season of “Magnum P.I.” The network plans to market the remaining 10 episodes as the final chapter of the series. The show’s fifth season was split into two parts, with the first half airing this midseason and the second half scheduled for mid-season 2024. The cast’s contract options are expiring on June 30, which prompted the decision. While NBC had the option to pick up a sixth season or extend the cast’s contracts, the conservative approach due to the writers’ strike makes an early renewal unlikely. The show may find a new home on a streaming platform like Netflix. “Magnum P.I.” has a dedicated fan following and has performed well in terms of viewership. It is also significant as a broadcast drama with a Latino lead. The series is a co-production between Universal TV and CBS Studios.
