A few months after the show premiered its first season on July 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET, HBO Max confirmed the renewal of Issa Rae’s Rap Sh!t for Season 2. It is the first show on the streaming platform that had a weekly time.
The cast for this comedy series includes Aida Osman (They Follow), KaMillion (After Effect), Daniel Augustin (Cake: The Series), Jonica Booth (XXI: O’Day), and RJ Cycler (Power Rangers). It follows Shawna and Mia, two high school friends from Miami, reuniting to form a hip-hop group. Also, it tells the story of a group of women trying to make it in the music industry in the Miami area.
“We are so excited to continue this journey with Shawna and Mia and the incredibly fun world of ‘Rap Sh!t.’ With the wonderfully comedic and unique perspectives of Aida Osman, KaMillion, Issa Rae, Syreeta Singleton, and the team at HOORAE, season two is sure to bring even more seducing and scheming,” Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content at HBO Max, said in a statement.
Issa Rae’s Rap Sh!t has received a $12 million tax credit from the state of California for the purpose of moving its setting to the west coast. However, they did not clarify the release date for the upcoming second season.
