Showtime has reached a decision regarding its last remaining current scripted series, which was uncertain about its future. The network has chosen not to renew the comedy show I Love That for You for a second season. The announcement comes a year after the first season aired, featuring Vanessa Bayer, who co-created the series with Jeremy Beiler. Alongside showrunner Jessi Klein and Michael Showalter, they all served as executive producers.
A representative for Showtime stated, “I Love That for You has completed its run on Showtime. We want to thank Vanessa, Jeremy, and Jessi, as well as the incredible cast and crew for their hard work, and wish them the best going forward.”
According to Deadline, there was an internal effort to secure a renewal for the well-received series. In December, Matt Rogers, a co-star of I Love That for You, claimed that the second season had already been written. The production company behind the show, Annapurna, is expected to seek other options with the support of Showtime.
Prior to the cancellation, I Love That for You was the only comedy series on Showtime until Uncoupled, starring Neil Patrick Harris, was picked up in February after being canceled by Netflix.
Since the change in leadership at the network, with Chris McCarthy taking over as CEO following the departure of David Nevins, no Showtime series has been renewed except for an early Season 3 pickup of Yellowjackets in December.
