HBO Max announces the cancellation of the non-scripted series FBoy Island. However, it’s probably not yet the end of the show. According to reports, STXalternative, the company behind the program, is currently undergoing discussions with various networks and platforms for the series.
HBO Max withdrew from unscripted originals over the summer as part of a significant cost-cutting initiative. This move resulted in the departure of its reality team headed by Jen O’Connell. Additionally, as the team at HBO Max acquisitions is looking to reduce its size significantly, Michael Quigley, executive vice president of content acquisition, has also left the company.
HBO Max claimed that when the FBoy Island debuted in July 2021, it had the biggest premiere of any Max Original reality show since the streamer’s launch. It was one of the rowdiest commissions for the business, which does not break out streaming data. The sophomore season of the series premiered last July 2022.
FBoy Island follows three women as they narrow down a field of 24 possible partners by determining which men were “f-boys,” who were merely there for fun, and which were “decent gentlemen,” who were actually looking for a relationship. It stars Nikki Glaser as the host.
Elan Gale is the creator of the series. Along with Jason Goldberg for STXalternative, Ben Bitonti, Glaser, and Sam Dean, who also served as showrunner, serve as EPs for the series. Also, Gale executive produced for TheYearOfElan Productions. STXalternative produces.
