After only one season, CBS has decided to cancel the cop drama series East New York, which starred Amanda Warren. This cancellation decision came after CBS reversed its initial cancellation of S.W.A.T., renewing the show for a final 13-episode season.
There were lengthy negotiations between CBS and East New York’s lead studio, Warner Bros. Television, about the show’s renewal, including discussions around streaming rights. Despite making progress, East New York and S.W.A.T. were reportedly competing for the same slot, and S.W.A.T. ultimately got renewed due to its established fan base and solid rating performance.
True Lies, the last remaining CBS bubble series, was also canceled. The East New York series followed the newly promoted deputy inspector Regina Haywood (Warren) and her diverse group of officers and detectives in East New York, an impoverished and working-class neighborhood.
