Disney+ has decided not to renew “Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.” for a third season, as confirmed by Deadline. The cancellation comes after the release of the entire second season, comprising 10 episodes, on the streaming platform five months ago.
The series, created and overseen by Kourtney Kang, centered around Lahela “Doogie” Kameฤloha (Lee), a 16-year-old juggling her medical aspirations and teenage life in contemporary Hawaiสปi. This reboot of the ’90s medical drama “Doogie Howser, M.D.,” which starred Neil Patrick Harris, featured a cast including Jason Scott Lee, Kathleen Rose Perkins, and others.
The show was executive produced by Kang, along with Melvin Mar, Jake Kasdan, Dayna Bochco, Jesse Bochco, Erin OโMalley, Matt Kuhn, and Justin McEwen. “Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.” was part of Disney Branded Television and produced by 20th Television exclusively for Disney+.
TVLine, affiliated with Deadline, was the first to report on the show’s cancellation. Notably, several original series on Disney+ outside the Marvel and Star Wars franchises, such as “National Treasure,” “Big Shot,” and “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers,” have also been discontinued after one or two seasons.
