Cruel Summer has made a remarkable comeback on Freeform, as the Season 2 premiere became the network’s highest-rated telecast in two years since the Season 1 finale aired in June 2021.
According to Freeform, the Season 2 premiere garnered an audience of 2.6 million viewers across linear and digital platforms after seven days of delayed viewing. This represents a significant increase of over 1,000% compared to the initial audience of 223,000 viewers on the same day of the premiere.
With an average of 2.3 million total viewers across two episodes, Cruel Summer has become Freeform’s most-watched season two series of all time and currently holds the position of Freeform’s number one ongoing series.
The series owes its continued success to its availability on Hulu the day after its original airing, which has helped expand its viewership to a broader audience. In its debut week, the first two episodes of Cruel Summer Season 2 became the most-watched scripted TV episodes on Hulu via SVOD on-demand.
Set in a picturesque waterfront town in the Pacific Northwest, the second season of Cruel Summer explores the rise and fall of an intense teenage friendship. Spanning three different timelines during the Y2K era, the season delves into the early friendship between Megan, Isabella, and Megan’s best friend Luke, the blossoming love triangle, and the mystery that will profoundly impact their lives.
