Apple TV+ has decided not to renew the crime drama series City on Fire for a second season. This decision comes shortly after the conclusion of Season 1, which consisted of eight episodes on the streaming platform. The show’s lack of buzz compared to recent Apple TV+ hits like Silo and Hijack likely contributed to this outcome.
Although City on Fire was initially developed as a drama series, not a limited series, it won’t leave viewers hanging. Season 1 covers the entire storyline from the novel it was adapted from, despite some potential seeds for a second season in the finale. The plot revolves around a suburban teenager named Charlie (played by Wyatt Oleff) who embarks on a quest to solve the murder of his friend Samantha (portrayed by Chase Sui Wonders) after she is shot in Central Park on the Fourth of July in 2003.
As the investigation into Samantha’s death unfolds, she is revealed to be the crucial link between a series of mysterious citywide fires, the downtown music scene, and a wealthy uptown real estate family struggling with numerous hidden secrets.
The series featured an ensemble cast, including Jemima Kirke, Nico Tortorella, Ashley Zukerman, Xavier Clyde, Max Milner, Alexandra Doke, Omid Abtahi, Kathleen Munroe, and John Cameron Mitchell.
