Showtime announces an early season three renewal for Yellowjackets. The news came ahead of its second season premiere on March 24, 2023. The series centers on exceptional high school girls soccer players who attempt to reconstruct their lives 25 years after they survive an aircraft accident in the forest and descend into savage clans.
The series follows different timelines, 1996, which is the disaster, and 2021 their present-day existence. The show incorporates elements from other survival story series, like Lost. It gives character development a lot of attention, and women make up the majority of the cast.
“With Yellowjackets’ runaway success in Season 1 and the pent-up anticipation for Season 2, we wanted to maximize the momentum by fast-tracking Season 3 now,” said McCarthy, President/CEO, Showtime and Paramount Media Networks. “The show’s ambition is only exceeded by its execution, and I thank the incredible creative team behind it, including Ashley, Bart, Jonathan, eOne, and the Showtime team, for turning this into such a success.”
It stars Melanie Lynskey, Juliette Lewis, Christina Ricci, Tawny Cypress, Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Courtney Eaton, Liv Hewson, Steven Krueger, Warren Kole, and Kevin Alves. Also, season two features Lauren Ambrose, Simone Kessell, and Elijah Wood. Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson serve as creators of the series. Lyle, Nickerson, showrunner Jonathan Lisco, and Drew Comins of Creative Engine are executive producers of Yellowjackets.
