Netflix announces the renewal of the mystery thriller series The Watcher for a second season. The series achieves over 125 million hours in its first week. The second week of the series showed a 19% increase, clocking over 148 million hours. However, the series has experienced a massive 54% drop in viewers in its third week, garnering only 67 million hours.
There has been a divide over the opinions on whether the series deserves a second season. Some expressed their disappointment by the conclusion because The Watcher’s identity was never made clear. The Watcher’s identity has never been revealed in real life as well, so instead of opting for a fictitious finale to satisfy the audience, it went on the road of real life, where the identity is still a mystery. With this confirmation of the renewal, the audience wonders how the life of the Brannock family would progress.
In a press release, Bela Bajaria, Head of Global TV at Netflix, said, “Audiences can’t take their eyes off Monster and The Watcher. The creative team of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan on Monster along with Eric Newman on The Watcher are masterful storytellers who captivated audiences all over the world. The back-to-back force of these two series is due to Ryan’s distinct original voice which created cultural sensations and we are thrilled to continue telling stories in the Monster and Watcher universes.”
