Starz confirmed the much-awaited renewal of the critically-acclaimed series The Serpent Queen for season 2. The news came before the last episode of the first season debuts. Season 1 of the show got a highly favorable response from the audience, with a 100 percent score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and an average audience score of 87 percent, it garnered a certified fresh rating.
The series is an adaptation of the book by Leonie Frieda, Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France. It centers on the “most unlikely, most powerful and longest-serving queens in French history,” Queen Catherine de Medici (Morton).
Justin Haythe (The Lone Ranger) is the writer and executive producer. Executive producing the show is Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games) and Erwin Stoff (The Matrix, Edge of Tomorrow). The executive in charge of the series for STARZ is Kathryn Tyus-Adair, Senior Vice President, Original Programming, and the executive overseeing Lionsgate Television is Courtney Mock. Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts Entertainment produce The Serpent Queen for STARZ.

We’re thrilled to unveil more of her incredible life and reign in season two, which promises to be even more provocative and sublime.”
