Prime Video has confirmed its decision to renew The Rig for another season. They will begin filming for the upcoming season later this year. Season 1 of the series premiered on Friday, January 6, 2023.
“In series two, I’m looking forward to expanding the world of our show through the eyes of our excellent cast, as we deliver more shocks and thrills and delve deeper into both our characters’ and our show’s expanding original mythology,” Macpherson said.
Martin Compston, Emily Hampshire, and Iain Glen will reprise their roles for season 2. Also, the returning cast members include Rochenda Sandall, Owen Teale, Mark Addy, Molly Vevers, Abraham Popoola, and Stuart McQuarrie.
The first season follows events in the Kishorn Bravo oil rig as it got engulfed in a mysterious fog that blocks all lines of communication. The Rig Season 2 will show the Kinloch Bravo team as they are helicoptered off the rig and transported to a new site, where new danger lurks. They will deal with tumultuous plots, conflicts, and fresh dangers emerging from the world’s oceans.
Banijay-backed Wild Mercury Productions produces, and filming takes place at First Stage Studios. David Macpherson serves as the creator of The Rig, and the director is John Strickland, who executive produces alongside Derek Wax, founder of Wild Mercury. Suzanne Reid is the producer, while Matt Brown co-produces.
