Prime Video has opted not to proceed with the much-anticipated second season of its science fiction drama series “The Peripheral,” starring Chloë Grace Moretz. The cancellation decision is in line with the ongoing Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, now entering its 109th day and the 36-day-long SAG-AFTRA strike. These strikes have introduced significant disruptions to TV production, creating substantial gaps between seasons and forcing adjustments to original release plans. This occurrence marks the inaugural instance of a renewal being retracted amid the present strike, prompting speculation that additional series might face a similar outcome should the strikes extend beyond Labor Day. This impact is particularly poignant for emerging shows transitioning to their second seasons, echoing a trend observed during the pandemic.
