The Last Of Us got an early season two renewal. They confirmed the news after releasing two episodes in its first season. The network reportedly decided to lock in a second season after Episode 2 garnered 5.7 million viewers across HBO and HBO Max, 22% more viewers than Episode 1, which got over 4.7 million viewers in its premiere night- the highest week two audience rise for any HBO original drama ever.
“Craig and Neil, alongside EP Carolyn Strauss, and the rest of our phenomenal cast and crew, have defined a genre with their masterful debut season of The Last of Us,” said Francesca Orsi, EVP of HBO Programming, Head of HBO Drama Series and Films. “After pulling off this unforgettable first season, I can’t wait to watch this team outshine themselves again with Season 2.”
“I’m so grateful to Neil Druckmann and HBO for our partnership, and I’m even more grateful to the millions of people who have joined us on this journey,” said executive producer and showrunner Craig Mazin.
“The audience has given us the chance to continue, and as a fan of the characters and world Neil and Naughty Dog created, I couldn’t be more ready to dive back in,” he added.

The series follows Joel, a seasoned survivor, trying to smuggle a 14-year-old girl named Ellie out of a restrictive quarantine zone. The events take place 20 years after the destruction of modern civilization. When they both have to travel across the United States and rely on one another for survival, what begins as a simple job quickly turns into a terrible and painful trip.
The series stars Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Gabriel Luna, Anna Torv, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman, Melanie Lynskey, Storm Reid, Merle Dandridge, Jeffrey Pierce, Lamar Johnson, Keivonn Woodard, Graham Greene, Elaine Miles, Ashley Johnson, and Troy Baker.
Like how the first season followed the original The Last of Us game by Naughty Dog, the second season will also be a series adaptation of The Last of Us: Part 2 game.
