HBO, now HBO Max, has officially renewed the critically acclaimed show “Somebody Somewhere” for a third season. The announcement was made by Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of HBO and Max comedy programming, who expressed excitement about the honest and impactful nature of the series. Starring Bridget Everett, the show follows the journey of Sam, a singer in her 40s from Kansas, as she searches for happiness and purpose after the loss of her sister.
Bridget Everett, known for her presence in the alt-cabaret circuit rather than traditional acting, reflects on her unique role as a plus-size woman leading a TV show. She acknowledges the increasing representation of women her age on television but highlights that being the main star in such a role is still uncommon.
Expressing her joy, Everett took to social media to share her enthusiasm for the show’s third-season pickup, exclaiming “Holy [Expletive]!” on Twitter and thanking HBO for the renewal.
While “Somebody Somewhere” is loosely based on Everett’s life, she emphasizes that it is not a direct reflection of her personal experiences. The show explores themes inspired by her life, with subtle references to her family, but it is not a faithful representation.
Jeff Hiller, Mary Catherine Garrison, Murray Hill, and Tim Bagley are among the cast members who join Everett in bringing the series to life.
