Based on the long-running book series of the same name by Diana Gabaldon, the television adaptation of Outlander will end before the release of the last novel of the ongoing book series. Outlander follows Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945, who is inexplicably transported to 1743. She finds herself thrust into an unfamiliar environment, putting her life in danger. This story examines the extent people will go to find love in a time when people view romance as a luxury and marriages are for political or financial advantage.
The tenth novel in the series, which author Diana Gabaldon is currently working on, will mark the conclusion. Gabaldon also serves as the executive producer for the show, meaning she could provide the fans with some context for the ending.
The series stars Caitríona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Sophie Skelton, Richard Rankin, John Bell, David Berry, Caitlin O’Ryan, and Paul Gorman. Also, the cast includes the newcomers Charles Vandervaart, Izzy Meikle-Small, and Joey Phillips.
Tall Ship Productions, Left Bank Pictures, and Story Mining & Supply Company produce Outlander together with Sony Pictures Television. Executive producers are Balfe, Heughan, Luke Schelhaas, Andy Harries, Jim Kohlberg, Matthew B. Roberts, Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, and Toni Graphia.
Jamie Fraser’s narrative hasn’t come to a close just yet. Outlander: Blood of My Blood a prequel to the series, has also been given the greenlight by Starz.
