Netflix has announced the renewal of the documentary series “Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal” for a second season. The three-part series, which focuses on a sensational murder case involving prominent South Carolina attorney Alex Murdaugh, is set to premiere globally on September 20. The initial season, directed by Jenner Furst and Julia Willoughby Nason, delved into the shocking deaths of Murdaugh’s wife and son, resulting in his life sentence for their murders.
Coinciding with this renewal news, it was reported that Alex Murdaugh had agreed to plead guilty to federal fraud charges in a separate case, accusing him of embezzling millions from clients. Furthermore, his son Buster appeared on Fox Nation’s special “The Fall of the House of Murdaugh,” discussing his father’s murder conviction and his own belief in his father’s innocence.
The upcoming second season of the series will provide more in-depth perspectives on the events leading up to and following the murders. This will include firsthand accounts from key figures such as Blanca Turrubiate-Simpson, the former Murdaugh Family Housekeeper, and Mushelle “Shelly” Smith, who cared for Libby Murdaugh. These individuals played significant roles as witnesses during the trial. Other returning figures include Curtis Edward Smith (known as Cousin Eddie), Gwen Generette (a trial juror), Morgan Doughty (Paul’s ex-girlfriend), Anthony Cook (Paul’s friend), and Valerie Bauerlein (Wall Street Journal reporter).
Season 2 will be directed and executive produced by Michael Gasparro and Julia Willoughby Nason.
