BBC has confirmed the renewal of their hit period drama, Call The Midwife, for seasons 14 & 15. With this renewal decision, the series will run until 2026. Both seasons will have eight 60-minute-long episodes. The BBC previously announced Series 13 and that production would begin in the spring. The 12th season of the series premiered on January 1 of this year and the final episode airs on Sunday, February 26, at 8 pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
Beginning in 2012, Call the Midwife follows a group of East London midwives as they deal with difficulties from the 1950s and 1960s, including racism, domestic violence, and mental health issues.
The series creator, Heidi Thomas, expressed her “overjoy” at the renewal, which will extend the story into the ’70s. She stated that the new series will examine the emotional and professional lives of the midwives and nuns at the convent they work at, Nonnatus House.
Thomas said: “We are a family behind the scenes, on the screen, and in front of the telly, and I’m thrilled that we’re all heading into the 1970s together.”
